 Dr. K's Korner Minimize
Drs. Richard and Brenda KowalskeWill Rogers once said, "Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there."  We want to encourage you to do something!  Something from the heart, expecting nothing (not even thanks) in return.  This could be something as simple as letting someone go before you in the line at the grocery store; offering to babysit for free; or cutting your elderly neighbor's lawn.  In the Christian world, this is known as "servant evangelism," and it is a way to show the world the love of Christ in our daily lives.  This week, or today, commit to staying on the right track, but moving on down the track!  Let's put our Christian love into action.  We would love to hear your experiences with servant evangelism, so please email us at chiromd@helpinghandsmissions.org.

You can help someone hear the gospel for the first time.  There are many people in third world countries who cannot read, and have never heard the gospel in their own language.  You can help reach these people by purchasing "MegaVoice," a handheld solar-powered player, which tells the story of Creation and Jesus.  We need these in Swahili, Spanish, and Quechua languages. The cost ranges from $40-$80 depending on how many is purchased.  Please email us at chiromd@helpinghandsmissions.org if you can help with this need. Thank you!

The Face of Cochabamba, Bolivia,
South America

In April, Helping Hands hosted a team of 45 people, representing three churches. We did "Servant Evangelism" in Kara Kara, a garbage dump community in Cochabamba, Bolivia, going door-to-door to distribute bags of sugar and rice. The people's hearts were open to hear the gospel as we gave the food, explaining that we were sharing the love of Christ in a practical way. This was only one of the mission adventures that we had during the week -  Please email us at chiromd@helpinghandsmissions.org if you would like to be a part of our Helping Hands team - through financial support, prayer support, or going to the mission field!

The jungle village of Oromomo is home to about 200 families, of 2 different indigenous tribes, the Yura and the Chimani.  Shown below are children in the village who are learning to hunt with hand-made bows and arrows.

Oromomo is a remote village accessible only by bush plane or by canoe, thus making Christian ministry difficult at best.  A Bolivian Christian missionary, Inocencio, and his wife Daria, have worked in this village for more than 2 years, sharing the gospel, however there is still only one other believer.  Many villages along jungle rivers are steeped in the traditions of their ancestors - they believe in many gods, such as gods of the river and the earth, and their worship consists of many ancient rituals.  They are more than happy to hear the gospel, but they simply want to add Jesus Christ to their list of gods.  They do not want to accept that Jesus is the ONLY way, and that eternal life can only be found in Him.  Their disbelief and lack of understanding makes it imperative that the Christian ministry continue in Oromomo.

A New Tribes pilot contacted Helping Hands, and explained that the airstrip in Oromomo was overgrown.  It was dangerous to fly in and out of the village, thus it would soon be difficult or impossible to support Inocencio and Daria's ministry.  Could we get a team together to go in and clear the airstrip?  Our answer - "Absolutely!"  Then all we had to do was find people willing to spend their Thanksgiving in the Bolivian jungle.  God brought us three wonderful people from the U.S. - Rich A, Rich M., and Cindy.  These three, Drs. Richard and Brenda Kowalske, Poly Gonzalez, and Jessica Matthews, (Helping Hands missionaries), and 2 other indigenous missionaries spent 5 days in the jungle clearing the airstrip.  We also provided medical care for many of the villagers.  The team is shown below, from left, Jessica, Cindy, Rich, Dr. Richard, Rich, David, and Ariel (not shown is Dr. Brenda.)

We finished our work!  The choice to forego a traditional Thanksgiving dinner had not been difficult for our team, because the week was spent making an eternal difference.  The airstrip was cleared, the planes could fly, and the gospel could spread.  The team battled hordes of mosquitos and a myriad of other jungle bugs; bathed in the river; cooked over an open fire; and tolerated temperatures over 100 degrees - all in a day's work for the Lord!

 TEACHING CHILDREN Minimize
Aguila Christian Academy

We are very excited about the beginning of Aguila Christian Academy, a home-school program for children of Word of Life missionaries in Cochabamba, Bolivia.  Most of the missionaries are now living at the Christian Complex, located outside the city, and the children travel up to 2 hours per day to attend classes in the city.  Classes for the Academy, which will begin in August, will be held at the Complex, and thus will be much more convenient and economical for the missionary families.  Jessica Matthews, director of Children's Ministry in Bolivia, will be in charge of the program.

The word "Aguila" means "eagle" in Spanish, and the school verse is Isaiah 40:31
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."  What an inspiring verse for the school and the students, as they learn in a Christian environment about trusting and waiting on the Lord for their strength and guidance.

We need volunteers to come and teach at the school from 6 weeks up to a lifetime!  We would love to have trained teachers, but if you have the desire to teach and can speak English, we can use you to teach English classes at the school.

Please consider volunteering your time
to make a difference in the life of a child across the world.

Stan Bell, who serves on the Board of Directors for Helping Hands, was also a great team member during our recent trip to Monterrey, Mexico.  We travelled into several small villages, providing free medical care, while at the same time, sharing the gospel.  Here Stan (on left) is using the Evangecube to tell about Jesus.

We have several mission trips planned in 2008, to Bolivia, Uganda, and other countries.

Come with us and share what  Jesus has done in your life!
