Devastation in Busia, Uganda

We received tragic news from Busia, Uganda recently. This is the village in Eastern Africa where we have been doing mission work for several years. The village has suffered from severe weather, and on April 9, a storm with heavy winds destroyed the new church that we have been building.

Take a trip to Africa - but in Busia, Uganda, in Eastern Africa, don't expect to see fields of giraffes and elephants! Rather, you encounter hundreds, perhaps thousands of children who live on the streets, many orphaned when their parents died of Aids. This is where our ministry takes us every year....

We're not sure if adventure is the right word for our mission trip to Russia from December 27 - January 8, 2007; however we could certainly call it a new "venture" for Helping Hands, since this was our first trip to Russia. Thanksgiving in the Bolivian Jungle

A Helping Hands team spent Thanksgiving week in the jungle village of Oromomo, along the Secure River in Central Bolivia. In order to continue ministry in this village, an airstrip needed to be cleared. We said, "We will go!" and thus ditched the traditional turkey dinner for canned chicken and ravioli....

A Helping Hands team has recently returned from ministry in the impoverished village of Busia, Uganda, where the average income is about $300 per year. We are building a church, a Youth Center, and also work with an orphan center which ministers to about 350 children. A pastor from Gainesville, Georgia traveled with the team and presented a 3-day conference, attended by more than 350 pastors and church leaders.
